Memorandum of understanding between University of Malaya and Universita' Politecnica delle Marche. The party of thè first part, Professor Dato' Dr. Hashim b. Yaacob, Vice-Chancellor of University of Malaya, acting as legai representative of thè University,

And thè party of thè second part, Professor Marco Pacetti, Rector of Università Politecnica delle Marche (former University of Ancona), acting as legai representative of thè University,

DECLARE

The importance of international cooperation between centres of research and higher education as well as thè usefulness of establishing closer relations between their institutions; in particular both institutions wish to develop and maintain activities that will foster co-operation and enhance thè skills of their students, staff and administrators, promoting thè exchange of experience and knowledge.

Por which reason they hereby decide to establish an agreement in thè following terrns:

CLAUSES

FIRST. The parties agree to promote thè exchange of students, researchers, faculty and administrative and other staff for workshops, seminars, conferences, joint courses and joint research projects according to thè terms of international law and their respective university regulations.

SECOND. The parties agree to carry out joint projects in education, research, organization of conferences and seminars along with any other programme judged to be of mutuai interest to both institutions.

THIRD. The parties agree to facilitate thè exchange of publications and information on thè activities of their institutions.

FOURTH. The parties agree to designate, on behalf of each institution, a coordinator whose responsibility will be to supervise thè execution of thè agreement and to draw up an annua! programme of activities, setting out specific provisions concerning thè exchange of persons, budget requirements and details of funding.









FIFTH. The parties agree that thè funding of this programme is subject

to thè approvai of their respective institutions.

SIXTH. The parties agree that in thè case of student exchange, those chosen to participate, provided they are officially enrolled in a degree or post-graduate programme, will pay normal tuition and fees at their home institution and will be exempted from thè tuition fees at thè host institution.

SEVEN. The parties agree that any conflicts arising from thè present agreement will be resolved by a joint committee set up for that purpose.

EIGTH. Any financial provisions contained in this document are subject to agreement and appended separately.

FINAL PROVISION. The present agreement will have a duration of 5 years from thè date of signing and can be renewed by thè express agreement of both parties. If one party wishes to cancel thè agreement, this decision must be communicated to thè other party no less than nine months in advance.

Annex1
Università Politecnica delle Marche (forrner University of Ancona) (UPM) has been collaborating with thè Asia-Europe Institute (AEI) of University of Malaya (UM) in thè development of UM's International Masters Programme since October 2003.

This specific programme will be marketed under thè logos of both institutions, as well as of other institutions that participate in thè programme.AEI will be launching thè International Masters in Small and Medium Enterprises in 2004. UPM and AEI agree that AEI will be thè Coordinating body for thè financial management of this programme.
