Agreement between


DIGITAL ENTERPRISE RESEARCH INSTITUTE (DERI) - IRELAND

and

UNIVERSITÀ' POLITECNICA DELLE MARCHE (UNIVPM) - ITALY


Following the existing Academic linkages between the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG), representing the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI), and Università Politecnica delle Marche (UNIVPM - D.E.I.T. Department) with respect to common research topics and in order to rurther promote the collaboration for joint research and learning activities:

-     NUIG representing the Digital Enterprise Research Institute, and represented by its Director of Technology Transfer, Dr Daniel O'Mahony and its Director, Prof. Stefan Decker

-    the Università Politecnica delle Marche, represented by its rector, Prof. Marco Pacetti

Declare that

1. the exchange of experiences and scientific knowledge across DERI and UNIVPM is of common interest for the progress of the respective academic lives;

2.   the Digital Enterprise Research Institute and the Università Politecnica delle Marche_share common fields of interest and similar academic and scientific targets; In particular they share interest in Intelligent methodologies and infrastructures for Information processing in distributed settings, this including but not limited to Fields like:

-    Semantic Web

-    Multimedia Semantics methods and standardization

-    User oriented methodologies and frameworks for interaction with distributed and semantically rich Information

-    Artificial and Computational Intelligence

With respect to these common topics and Fields , DERI and UNIVPM are interested in increasing the cultural, scientific and academic links between their respective researchers and students.

Agree upon the following

1.   The subject of the present MoU is the development of academic, cultural and scientific relationships between the Digital Enterprise Research Institute and the Università Politecnica delle Marche_/_D.E.I.T. Department.

2.   The parties involved will favour the exchange of students, professors and researchers by possibly providing research grants, but such research grants are not guaranteed at this point of execution of this MoU, and lodging facilities, if reasonably available, and by encouraging the participation of researchers belonging to two institutions in joint research programmes such as European Union FP7 grants or other.

3.   Each party will offer to agreed visiting professors, researchers and students a similar treatment than is offered to its own professors, researchers and students where reasonably possible, by allowing them to make use of the academic and scientific services, according to

the limits fixed by the laws in force in the respective countries and the relevant policies in piace at each Institution.

4.   The parties will encourage the join publication of books and specialized works though international publisher and in their own specialized journals, by following the rules that regulate their publication.

5.   Periodical meetings between professors and researchers in similar specialization areas will be encouraged, aiming at an exchange of experiences and knowledge and at the development of possible co-operations for common projects.

The present agreement can be modified by mutual consent of the parties involved if one of the parts asks for it. It will be in force once signed by the parties and will last two years. It will be automatically renewed for a similar period until one of the party notifies the other party of its wish to withdraw with a three-month notice before expiration. The parties agree to conclude the acts started and not finished if the agreement is stopped.

The present agreement is signed in two valid originals, in English, by the representatives of the parties involved.
