MEMORANDUM OF AGREEMENT
BETWEEN
UNIVERSITÀ POLITECNICA DELLE MARCHE - ANCONA , ITALY
AND
UNIVERSITY OF ULSTER, NORTHERN IRELAND
FOR A STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMME
Article 1
Subiect of Agreement
This Agreement defines the terms of a study abroad prograinme (hereinafter called 'the programme') agreed between the Università Politecnica delle Marche, Ancona (hereinafter called 'UNIVPM') and the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland. The programme shall provide the opportunity for students at UNIVPM to partecipate in a period of study abroad at the University of Ulster under conditions which normally pertain there. UMVPM expects that students will enrol for modules relevant to their current studies at the appropriate campus of the University of Ulster. Students shall study for one semester at the University of Ulster and shall take modules amounting to 60 credit points (equivalent to 30 ECTS points).
The main contact person for the University of Ulster will be the Head of the International Office and for UNIVPM will be the Head of International Relations Office.
Article 2
Requirement for Partecipation
AD students regularly enrolled at UNIVPM on an undergraduate or postgraduate taught course may apply for participation in the programme provided that UNIVPM is satisfied that they can pursue a programme of study at the University of Ulster compatible with their studies at UNIVPM The final decision on the acceptability of appications for admission to the programme will be made by the University of Ulster. Applications for semester one entry should be submitted by 30 June and by 15 November for semester two entry.
Prior to admission to the programme UNIVPM students will normally be expected to have attained a leve! of English Language ability that equips them to study in English at the University of Ulster. Students who are unable to demonstrate a level of English Language ablity equivalent to IELTS Grade 6.0 will be required to undertake a six week pre-sessional English Language programme at the University of Ulster commencing in August each year. Other students may participate in this programme and/or in English Language workshops organised during the semester.
Article 3
Number of Participants and Fees
It is anticipated that up to a maximum of 100 students per year will study at the University of Ulster. The exact number of students will be agreed on an annual basis and will be included in the annex to this Memorandum. Students attending the University of Ulster through the programme will attend on a fee paying basis. The annual fee due will be advised in the annex to this Memorandum. It should be noted that with the introduction of undergraduate top-up tuition fees to the United Kingdom in 2006 the tuition fee charged in the academic year 2005/2006 will be subject to an increase in 2006/07. The annex to the Agreement covering the number of students and fees for the forthcoming academic year shall be confirmed by 30 April each year. Fees shall be paid by UNIVPM on behalf of participating students and shall be paid within thirty days of the start of each semester.
Article 4
Rights and Responsibilities of UNIVPM Students
Both parties agree that UNIVPM students attending the University of Ulster will be subject to the Charter, Statutes, Ordinances, Regulations and other rules of the University of Ulster during the period of their studies. Participating students will enjoy the same rights and privileges as other students of the University of Ulster. They must abide by the rules and code of conduct of the University and shall be subject to its disciplinary procedures. UNIVPM may also invoke its own disciplinary regulations in respect of a UNTVPM student attending the University of Ulster.
When the University of Ulster receives an academic based appeal or a compianti from a UNIVPM student, then the University of Ulster will investigate and rute on that appeal or complaint in accordance with its procedures. UNIVPM will be notified of any such appeal or complaint and its outcome.
Article 5
Transcript
The University of Ulster will submit to UNIVPM a transcript reeording the moddes studied and the achievement of each participating student within four weeks of the end of the relevant semester 's examination period.
Article 6
Termination
This Agreement shall be effective from the date of signature below and shall continue in force until terminated on three months' notice, to expire at the end of an academic year, given by either party; such notice shall be given in writing and addressed to the head of the other university.
Article7
Dispute
In the event of any dispute arising in connection with the Agreement between the University of Ulster and UNIVPM this will be referred to the heads of both universities for further consideration.
Article 8
Interpretation
The interpretation, construction, effect and enforceability of this agreement shall be governed by the laws of Northern Ireland and the parties agree to submit to the non- exclusive introduction of the Northern Ireland Courts.
Article 9
Data Protection Act
In certain circumstances the University of Ulster may be obliged to disclose personal information to competent authorities for the purposes of the Data Protection Act and other legislation. It is acknowledged by UNIVPM that such disclosure can be made without consent as the University of Ulster in its absolute discretion shall determine.
The undersigned agree to the above provisions.

Tuition fees for postgraduate taught programmes are based on the credit value of modules of study. Masters programmes usually have a total of one hundred and credit points with sixty credit points being accumulated in each semester.
