APPLICATION FORM FOR ADMISSION TO FIRST LEVEL DISTANCE LEARNING MASTER IN

BIOSAFETY IN PLANT BIOTECHNOLOGY

ACADEMIC YEAR 2010-2011

 

Art. 1

The Faculty of Agriculture of Marche Polytechnic University activates for the academic year 2010-2011 the distance learning (on-line with on campus activities) first level Master in Biosafety in Plant Biotechnology. Aim of the master is to provide a specific knowledge in the sector of plant genetically modified risk and benefit assessment.

 

Art. 2

Finality

 

An international academically accredited course based on a combination of distance-learning and on-campus training sessions.

It is distinctively interdisciplinary with students and faculty from natural & social sciences. The training program is specifically addressed to the sector of Genetically Modified Plant (GMP) benefit and risk assessment for scientists, trainers, operators  and evaluators working mainly in the areas of agronomy, genetics and biotechnology. The aim is to provide theoretical and practical experience and rules on GMP risk assessment in different cultivation conditions (mainly Balkan, Mediterranean and African areas) and for the food and feed. The program is supported though a technical cooperation project under the aegis of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). As the other biosafety courses given by the UNIDO network centers provides training at the highest possible level to:

Duration

 

Each year the master will start within the month of November and it will have a duration of 46 weeks (322 days). For the academic year 2010/2011 the call for applications is open until to October 1, 2010 while the course will start the 05 of November 2010.

 

Art. 4

Admission

 

The master admits the following students:

·  Biotechnology

·  Biology

·  Agriculture, Forestry and Food Technology

·  or other scientific discipline with an appropriate curricula.

The master is open to Italian students but also addressed to foreign students from EU and not EU Countries.

 Students having a diploma from foreign countries are obliged to ask the recognition of their Academic diploma to the Academic Organs of the Marche Polytechnic University, only for the admission to the master, the diplomas have to be equivalent for time and study program with diplomas requested by this call.

Students having a diploma from foreign countries, for the Academic recognition, must include to the application the original copy of the diploma, the Italian translation of the diploma and the official legalization of this documents (‘Dichiarazione di valore’) to be requested directly to the Italian competent diplomatic authorities (Embassy) in the country of the institution that has released the diploma.

Art. 5

Number of students and evaluation

The Master is open to 30 students, selected for the following criteria: 

-          Diploma and appropriate curricula.

-          Motivation in the implementation of structures for international and local rules for GMO biosafety.

-          Knowledge of the English language (certificate).

-          Evidence of computer literacy (certificate).

 

For each document will be assigned an evaluation score up to 25. The selection will be carried out by the local coordinator in collaboration with a local commission and members of the International Faculty. The master will be developed with a controlled access to an informatics platform and each student will be followed by tutors with specific expertises for each theme and with continue supervision of the members of Master International Faculty.

 

Art. 6

Teaching program

 

The Masters degree in Biosafety in Plant Biotechnology is structured as 7 modules (49 credits), the final project (11 Credits), all for a total of 60 Credits. Though the modules are relatively stand-alone, they are structured in such a way that the student is obliged to follow them in a logical chronological order. The master also includes on campus activities at the beginning and at the end (compulsory) of didactic activities.

 

Modules will have the following contents:

 

Modulo 1: Module 1. Course Background – 7 Credits.

Modulo 2: Applications of Biotechnology – 7 Credits.

Modulo 3: Theoretical and Practical Foundations of Biological Risk Assessment - 7 Credits.

Modulo 4: Food and Feed Safety - 7 Credits.

Modulo 5: Environmental Safety - 7 Credits.

Modulo 6: National and International Regulatory Systems - 7 Credits.

Modulo 7: Risk Perception and Risk Communication - 7 Credits.

 

For the academic year 2010/2011 the Master will start the 05.11.2010.

Call for application

 

Applications can be submitted anytime until to 1 October 2010. The interested students can find information and application form on the University web page www.univpm.it (see: Area studenti/bandi, concorsi regolamenti/Master) and also on the UNIDO – Binas web page (http://binas.unido.org/moodle/course/enrol.php?id=8).

 

In order to be admitted to the I level master all the applicants MUST indicate an e-mail address.

 

Candidates have to submit the following documents:

 

1-      The application compiled on special form available at the “Ripartizione Organizzazione didattica e diritto allo studio” or on the University web page www.univpm.it (see: Area studenti/bandi, concorsi regolamenti/Master) or and also on the UNIDO – Binas web page (http://binas.unido.org/moodle/course/enrol.php?id=8).

2-      Degree certificate (copy with auto-certification DPR 445/2000), with indicated date and degree evaluation.

 

Admission of non EU citizen living in foreign countries 

Candidates to the Master are obliged to submit at the Italian Diplomatic office with competence in the territory the application form and all the requested documents and the Diplomatic Office will transmit all documents, in time for the deadline indicated above, to the office Ripartizione Organizzazione didattica e diritto allo studio dell’Università Politecnica delle Marche – Via Oberdan 12 – 60122 Ancona.

Regarding the Degree diploma it has to certificate the type and title of study and degree mark, including the in loco translation, legalization and “dichiarazione di valore”, as produced by the Italian Diplomatic office of the country where the diploma was released. If in the diploma is not reported the degree mark, it has to be declared in the ‘dichiarazione di valore’.

 

Admission of non EU citizen living in Italy or in other EU countries

In the application, addressed to the “Magnifico Rettore” - Università Politecnica delle Marche, the candidate for the selection must include the following documents: 

 

-          Knowledge of the English language (recognized certification).

-          Evidence of computer literacy (recognized certification).

-          Motivation letter in the implementation of structures for international and local rules for GMO biosafety.

 

The application must include also:

-          Home address for communication related to the application, any changes have to be promptly communicated to the same office

-          The type of diploma, including year, place and final mark, and appropriate curricula as requested for the admission.

 

Candidates with a diploma released in a foreign country, for the official recognition of the Academic Organs,  have to include in the application the original copy of the diploma and copy of the Italian translation legalised (“dichiarazione di valore”) from the Italian diplomatic representations in the territory where the diploma has been released.

 

The possibility to submit documents with an auto-certification is not applicable from students having diplomas from foreign countries and they are obliged to submit for each document the translation legalized by the Italian diplomatic office.

 

The applications will be evaluated on October 10-12th and the list of the selected students will published on October 15 th, 2010 on www.univpm.it (see: Area studenti/bandi, concorsi regolamenti/Master).

 

All candidates can get the results of the evaluation directly from the web page of the master and will not receive any communications. After the approval the selected students have to proceed with the final registration and with payment of the registration fee, from the 16 October to the 05 of November 2010.

Registration

 

The selected students have to proceed with the final registration and with payment of the registration fee from the 16 October to the 05 of November 2010.  The registration form can be downloaded from the web www.univpm.it (see: Area studenti/bandi, concorsi regolamenti/Master) or and also on the UNIDO – Binas web page (http://binas.unido.org/moodle/).

 

The registration form has to be signed and returned to “Segreteria Amministrativa: Ripartizione Organizzazione didattica e diritto allo studio”, Via Oberdan 12 60122 Ancona, (Phone 0712202306; Fax: 0712202308, e-mail: master.agraria-scienza@univpm.it) by express mail or fax at the same address, with the following document

 

-The receipt of the payment concerning the year 2010/2011 (for the amount see at art. 10).

 

Applicants with foreign diploma will be accepted under the condition of the complete recognition of the diploma by the Academic Organs.

 

The payment has to be addressed to bank account of the Marche Polytechnic University at Unicredit Banca S.p.A, IBAN code: IT89W0300202620000000600882, Ente di Tesoreria 401103, by indicating registration for the E-Biosafety Master and the name of the student.

 

Other students can be accepted also after the deadline of November 5, 2010 only if will remain available some positions and will be decided by the University administration, after the evaluation of the local coordinator in collaboration with a local commission and members of the International Faculty

 

Username and password for the access, always through the web page http://binas.unido.org/moodle/, to the activities reserved to teachers and students of the Master, will be delivered when available the registration documents. This access will be valid for the 365 days expected for the Master program.

 

The registration contemporarily of the present Master with other masters of this or other Universities is not allowed.

 

Art. 9   

Release of the diploma

 

For the recognition of the credits and the admission to the presentation of the final dissertation, students have to pass a final oral exam on topics of each modules at the end of the course year, in a unique date. The date, in respect of the necessities of each students will be define by the Coordinating committee.

 

At the end of the master, after the final exam which will expect also the thesis presentation and discussion (corresponding to 11 credits), the Marche Polytechnic University will release the first level master Diploma in “Master Internazionale in Biosicurezza delle Piante Geneticamente Modificate”.

 

 

Art. 10

Fees  

 

The Marche Polytechnic University will not provide scholarships or facilitations.

 

The payment of the registration fee for the course year is:

 

-          1000 € student

 

All including

- 90 € for the Regional tax on Master course

- 14,62€  for the auto-certification form

- 7,00 € for the insurance

 

The Marche Polytechnic University is not expecting the activation of any fellowship for the registered students.
