The course of study in short



 

The laurea degree in mechanical engineering prepares professionals who can profitably enter the world of work in the industrial sector; It also provides the basic tools and methods needed to increase and update their knowledge over time, adapting them to constant scientific and technological evolution.

Specifically, the degree program is geared towards both design and process aspects, as well as to the productive, technological and organizational aspects of mechanical manufacturing industries and production, conversion or energy management systems.

Graduates will be able to carry out all those technical and organizational tasks that are required in the mechanical production chain, from technical offices to manufacturing plants, from maintenance and plant management to purchasing offices and commercial technical sectors.

The Bachelor course is also structured to give the students an adequate cultural basis for the continuation of engineering studies in Magistral courses, mainly in the Mechanical sector, but also in the Management sector.

Mechanical Engineer

Role in the work context

  • Collaboration in the design, installation, estimation and testing of mechanical machines and plants

  • Direct and instrumental surveys of technical parameters relating to machines and mechanical plants;

  • Maintenance and management of production departments as well as carrying out activities of control, verification and technical assistance

  • Use of standardized methodologies for the design, workmanship and testing of individual devices or individual components of machines, plants and energy systems as well as simple and repetitive systems and processes.

 

Expertise Related to the Function

The mechanical engineering expertise focuses on mechanical design, analysis of the dynamic behaviour of machines and mechanisms, production technologies and energy machines. They merge with the disciplines that characterize industrial engineering such as solid and fluid mechanics, materials science and applied thermodynamics.

Such expertise makes mechanical engineers able to face the mechanical design of products and processes, product development, installation and testing of machine systems, maintenance and management of production departments, as well as carrying out activities of control, verification and technical assistance.

  • Use of standardized methodologies for the design, workmanship and testing of individual components of machines, plants and energy systems as well as simple and repetitive systems and processes

 

Expertise Related to the Function

Energy-engineering expertise focuses on applied thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid machinery and it integrates into disciplines that characterize industrial engineering such as solid and fluid mechanics, production technologies, materials science.

Energy engineers are able to tackle themes specific to the thermodynamic conversion of the various forms of energy, the environmental effects associated with energy production, the end uses of energy, air conditioning and well-being in the environments.

  • Use of standard methodologies for design, supervision and testing of mechanisms or single components of machines, plants and systems as well as simple and repetitive systems and processes.

  • selection of type of warehouse and handling systems for the semi-finished products;

  • preliminary design of the technical and distribution facilities of a production plant.

  • evaluation of the energetic, economic and environmental performance of mechanical systems and energy machines.
