This intensive one-week summer school offers architecture and engineering students a unique opportunity to work with students from other countries and different disciplines on a challenging problem in a historic seismic area.

A group of architects, engineers and art historians will be based at Amandola.

Project work will focus on securing the future of the monastery of San Francesco, damaged in recent earthquakes.

Field studies will include a visit to nearby Ascoli Piceno, and teaching will include:

understanding seismic activity and how to mitigate its consequences

principles and problems in the conservation of historic fabric

the use of archival material in preparing design appraisals and reports

and graduate students will be given the opportunity to present their research for critical review.

At the end of the summer school there will be a public exhibition and a publication, recording the work.
