The course of study in short

The graduates of the Bachelor’s Degree Course in Biomedical Laboratory Techniques are health operators who, pursuant to the Ministerial Decree of the Ministry of Health of September 26, 1994, n. 745, carry out their work with professional technical autonomy in direct collaboration with the laboratory staff in charge of the various operational responsibilities; they are responsible, in the laboratory facilities, for the correct fulfillment of the analytical procedures and their performance, as part of their duties in application of the work protocols defined by the manager in charge; verify the correspondence of the performance provided to the indicators and standards predefined by the head of the structure; monitor and verify the correct functioning of the equipment used, provide for routine maintenance and the eventual elimination of minor problems; participate in the planning and organization of work within the structure in which they operate; carry out their activity in public and private laboratory structures, authorized according to current legislation, in an employee or freelance relationship; they contribute to the training of support staff and directly contribute to updating their professional profile and research.


The educational activities (courses, laboratories, final exam) are measured in credits that document the student's commitment in carrying out the activity itself. Each credit corresponds to 25 hours of total commitment for the student, between participation in teaching activities and personal study. The internship is carried out at the regional health facilities under the supervision of professionals dedicated to the coordination and tutoring of the practical activity. The number of credits attributed to each individual activity is indicated in the plan of training activities. The degree course is organized into three types of training activities: basic activities; characterizing activities; related or integrative activities. There are also credits that can be acquired by the student by attending monographic courses or forums on topics related to the subjects dealt with by the student; for the knowledge of a foreign language; and for the acquisition of other IT and relational skills. The three-year degree course ends with a final exam with an enabling value.


The course allows access to the master's degree (e.g. Health Professions of Technical Sciences Diagnostic, LM/SNT3) and 1st level university masters.

They perform laboratory analyses and research related to biomedical analysis and biotechnology; in particular biochemistry , microbiology and virology, pharmacology , immunology, clinical pathology, hematology , cytology and histopathology.

Skills associated with the function:

Graduates act with professional technical autonomy collaborating with other professional of the laboratory .
They are responsible for the correct performance of the analytical procedures and for the application of the protocols that have been assigned to them. They control the correspondence of the results of the analyses to the indicators and standards; monitor and verify the performance of the technical instruments and take care of them through regular checking; participate in the planning and organization of the work within the structure in which they operate
