The course of study in short

Characteristics and educational objectives.
The three-year degree course in ‘Forestry and Environmental Sciences’ provides the preparatory preparation for continuing in the master's degree course in ‘Forestry, Soil and Landscape Sciences’ and, at the same time, the acquisition of sufficient professionalism to launch graduates in the employment. Through a training course that begins with the basic disciplines, continues with the characterizing disciplines and ends with the professionalizing ones, the graduate will be able to apply integrated knowledge on the functioning of semi-natural and natural ecosystems to the many problems related to sustainable use and conservation of forest and environmental resources, but also to the planning and management of territory, soil, and biodiversity. The degree course allows the student to develop a broad vision of the management problems, protection, and enhancement of forest and environmental resources, in particular of the hilly and mountainous territories, but also a broad knowledge on the use of new methodologies and technologies for management and monitoring of the forest and environmental systems.

Occupational areas.
Graduates in Forestry and Environmental Sciences will be able to carry out the design of simple structures and infrastructures and the application of technologies for i) the conservation and sustainable management of the resources of the rural, forest, silvo-zootechnical, and pastoral environment, ii ) soil protection and forest engineering, both in the public and private sectors; iii) the enhancement and conservation of biodiversity, and the environmental protection in the management of natural reserves and parks.
The three-year graduate can take the qualification exam to practice the profession that allows the enrollment in the ‘Section B - junior agronomists and junior forestry doctors’ of the professional register of the Order of Agronomists and Forestry Doctors (CONAF); graduates can also take the qualifying examination to practice as a graduate agricultural expert and graduate agro-technician.

From the bachelor's to the master's degrees.
The course gives direct access to the master's degree courses in Forestry, Soil and Landscape Sciences (FORESPA) and in Agricultural and Land Sciences (SAT).

Forest technician

Function in a work context:

The graduate in Forest and Environmental Sciences will be able to interact in the processes of planning, management, conservation, and enhancement of the agro-forestry-pastoral heritage and landscape resources, also interacting with experts of other disciplines operating in territorial planning. The graduate person will be able to carry out design, management, and control activities in the forestry and environmental sectors, both public and private, as well as activities aimed at the enhancement and conservation of biodiversity, and at the environmental protection in the management of reserves and natural parks.

Skills associated with the function:

The skills developed during the degree course are functional to plant and animal production; the control of plants’ diseases and pests; the genetic improvement of plants and animals; the economic planning and estimates of rustic land units; the reclamation, irrigation, protection of waters and atmosphere; the land use planning and environmental impact assessment; the study, use and protection of the soil; the land and urban landscape design (parks, gardens, road trees, cycle paths, playgrounds, industrial green); the recovery of degraded areas.

Employment opportunities:

The course allows graduate person to qualify for the following regulated professions:

- junior agronomist and forestry;
- graduate agro-technician;
- graduate agricultural expert;
