Objective

The Ph.D. Course in Information Engineering is designed to prepare highly-qualified students for careers in cutting-edge areas of information and communication technology (ICT).

The course is organized into two curricula: 1) Biomedical, Electronics, Telecommunications and Nanotechnology Engineering (IBETN); 2) Computer, Management and Automation Engineering (IIGA). A significant feature of the project is the presence of most areas of ICT and some other areas important to ICT: from Electronics and Electrical Engineering to Measurements and Control Systems, from Telecommunications to Informatics and Bioengineering, from Electromagnetics to Nanotechnology, but also Physics, Chemistry, Operations Research and Management Engineering. This makes it possible to take full advantage of the multidisciplinary characteristics and methodologies in the different application areas. The contribution of the basic disciplines provides the substrate and cohesive element for more specialized disciplines. Another characterizing element is the close integration with industrial reality. The Ph.D. is able to attract resources, in the form of co-funded or fully funded grants, from companies interested in the development of new technologies and services, and which see in the Ph.D. an important opportunity to enhance and grow skills. An element considered very important for the Doctoral Program is the possibility that is given to the doctoral student to carry out periods abroad, through participation in conferences, attendance at thematic schools, visits to university institutions and research centers where the doctoral student, taking advantage of the network of collaborations established by the members of the Board, can carry out research activities, even for long periods, thus enhancing and completing the education, both from the point of view of scientific knowledge and personal cultural growth.
