Il VII Programma Quadro ha costituito per il periodo 2007-2013 il principale strumento a disposizione dell'Unione europea per l'attuazione di una politica comune, un miglior coordinamento delle attività, l'utilizzazione delle applicazioni della ricerca al servizio delle altre politiche, nonché la promozione del ruolo delle scienze nelle società moderne nel campo della ricerca e dell'innovazione.
