Final exam

The Doctoral Degree is awarded by the Rector after the successful defense of a thesis, that shall constitute a contribution to knowledge in the topic of investigation chosen.

The doctoral thesis has to be written in Italian or English or, prior to authorization of the Faculty meeting, in another language and it has to be evaluated by at least two highly qualified academics, who shall be selected by the Faculty Board among professors and researchers from national and international Universities.

The Faculty Board shall examine within October 31^st of the students’ last year of the PhD course the students’ research works and their academic performance during the whole PhD program. After that they will also recommend admission to the thesis public defense or ask for postponement, notifying the Administration and the students thereof.

The students who have been recommended for the admission to the final exam shall within November 30^th:

The reviewers will issue within 30 days of receipt of the thesis a detailed written assessment report of the thesis, that will be submitted to the Faculty Board and to the student, and recommend admission to the public defense or ask for postponement, for a maximum of six months, if relevant additions or changes are required.

After a postponement period, theses are always admitted to public defense, without exception. In these cases reviewers will issue a new detailed written assessment report.

PhD students shall submit the Rector the following documents not later than January 30^th:

• a. the assessment report written by the reviewers
• b. if admitted to the thesis public defense, the doctoral thesis along with a summary thereof in Italian and in English.

If the thesis public defense is postponed, the thesis shall be submitted to the Rector within six months’ time.
