Horizon 2020

 

HORIZON 2020 is a European Union programme which brings together all of the previous EU's research and innovation funding under a single common strategic framework.

 

The programme, active from the 1st of January 2014, with nearly € 80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020), is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness.

The Horizon 2020 structure is composed of three "pillars" which represent the main priorities of the program:

- Industrial Leadership

- Societal Challenges

Horizon 2020 is also characterized by horizontal pillars for the cross-cutting initiatives:

- Joint Research Center (JRC)

- Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation

- Euratom
