The course of study in short

The course aims to train health specialists in possession of advanced cultural and professional training to intervene with high skills in care, management, training and research processes in the nursing and midwifery profession.


TRAINING OBJECTIVES AND PROFESSIONAL FIGURES
At the end of the training course, graduates are able to express advanced organizational, educational, welfare and research skills, in response to the priority problems of the population's health and the quality of the services provided.
On the basis of the knowledge acquired, they participate in the following activities: planning and management of the staff of the healthcare area, assessment of community needs, development of new methods of work organization, technological and IT innovation also with reference to forms of remote assistance and distance learning , research and implementation of the related results, planning and organization of pedagogical-training interventions as well as the homogenization of operational standards to those of the European Union.


METHOD OF ADMISSION
Candidates who are in possession of a degree qualifying for the health professions included in the class or of the corresponding professional educational qualification or qualifying and equivalent university diploma or other qualification may be admitted to the Master's Degree Course in Nursing and Midwifery Sciences. obtained abroad, recognized as suitable according to the regulations in force. Access to the degree course is limited in number according to law 264/99 and requires an admission exam prepared according to ministerial indications. Admission takes place through a competition test, whose date, method of conduct and number of applicants are defined annually by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR) and published each year in a specific admission notice issued by the University.


PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE MASTER'S DEGREE
They can carry out their professional activity in public or private health facilities, as an employee or freelance professional in the roles listed:
- role of Director of professional educational activities in the first level degree courses, master's degree courses and masters in the health sector, for which the possession of the master's degree is required, pursuant to the Decree of 19 February 2009 of the MIUR in agreement with the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Policies, on the 'Determination of the classes of university degrees in the health professions' and the well-known Ministry of Education, University and Research of 8 May 2013;
- role of Adjunct Professor in the Degree Courses of the Health Professions, for which the possession of the Master's Degree is required, pursuant to the MIUR note of 8 May 2013;
- management in health facilities (organization / supervision of facilities and provision of services with a view to effectiveness) pursuant to Law No. 251 of 10 August 2000 and Law 43/2006;


DURATION AND STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE
The course lasts two years, quantified in 120 University Educational Credits (CFU).
Attendance to theoretical activities is mandatory; to be admitted to take the tests, the student must have attended at least 70% of the scheduled teaching activities.
For the internship and for the laboratory, attendance is compulsory for 100% of the planned activities. The organization of the activities is described in detail in the Internship and Laboratory Regulations available at the following link New Internship Regulations 2020-2021_0.pdf (univpm.it)
The student, having taken all the exams and acquired the CFUs provided for in the study plan, can access the final exam. The final exam consists in the presentation and discussion of a thesis written in an original and unpublished form.


SUBSEQUENT OUTPUTS
The Master's Degree allows access to PhD courses and 2nd Level Masters.

Nell'ambito professionale della ostetricia, secondo quanto previsto dal D.M. del Ministero della sanità14 settembre 1994, n. 740 e successive modificazioni ed integrazioni, devono essere in grado di assistere e consigliare la donna nel periodo della gravidanza, durante il parto e nel puerperio, condurre e portare a termine parti eutocici con propria responsabilità e prestare assistenza al neonato; per quanto di loro competenza, di partecipare ad interventi di educazione sanitaria e sessuale sia nell'ambito della famiglia che nella comunità; alla preparazione psicoprofilattica al parto; alla preparazione e all'assistenza ad interventi ginecologici; alla prevenzione e all'accertamento dei tumori della sfera genitale femminile; ai programmi di assistenza materna e neonatale; di gestire, nel rispetto dell'etica professionale, come membri dell'equipe sanitaria, gli interventi assistenziali di loro competenza; di individuare situazioni potenzialmente patologiche che richiedono l'intervento medico e di praticare, ove occorra, le relative misure di particolare emergenza; di svolgere la loro attività professionale in strutture sanitarie, pubbliche o private, in regime di dipendenza o libero-professionale; di contribuire alla formazione del personale di supporto e concorrere direttamente all'aggiornamento relativo al loro profilo professionale e alla ricerca; di assumersi responsabilità, dal punto di vista tecnico, relazionale ed educativo, dell'assistenza infermieristica generale in risposta ai problemi di salute della persona (uomini e donne, secondo le rispettive specificità ed esigenze legate al genere) e della collettività e sotto il profilo preventivo, curativo, palliativo e riabilitativo. 

Skills associated with the function:

I laureati magistrali in Scienze Infermieristiche ed Ostetriche dirigono articolazioni funzionali del Servizio Sanitario Nazionale, formulano proposte e pareri ai direttori generali o dipartimentali da cui dipendono, curano l'attuazione dei progetti loro affidati adottando e definendo, nei limiti di competenza, le modalità organizzative e le risorse necessarie alla loro realizzazione, esercitando i poteri di spesa loro attribuiti, coordinando le attività degli uffici loro subordinati, individuando i responsabili delle procedure affidate al proprio ufficio e verificando e controllando le attività complessive dell'ufficio rispetto agli obiettivi fissati. Sono responsabili della gestione e dei risultati raggiunti.
