The course of study in short

The Master Degree Program in Management Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Marche (UNIVPM) aims to train a high-profile professional figure who combines technological and economic-managerial skills to face complex interdisciplinary problems. Such ability derives from the advanced knowledge acquired in the areas of industrial and information engineering, on which those relating to the methods for managerial, organizational and economic analysis are joined in an overall perspective that guarantees consistency between the choices. technologies, corporate strategy and market context. The set of skills learned allows the Management Engineer to be one of the actors in the processes for making strategic and operational decisions that influence the competitiveness of companies and/or organizations. The peculiarity of the professional figure trained is represented by the ability to integrate these skills with those of an environmental and social nature related to the management of the many aspects connected to production, logistics and services in companies and/or organizations characterized by a marked ability to innovate and with high technological and market complexity.
To access the Degree Program, students must have a degree in class L8 - Information Engineering or L9 - Industrial Engineering (D.M. 270/04), or in class IX - Information Engineering or X - Engineering Industrial (D.M. 509/99), acquired at any University, or other qualification obtained abroad recognized as suitable. For graduates from italian Universities, in addition to the aforementioned requirement, the acquisition of an adequate number of credits in some Academic Discipline is required as indicated in the Academic Regulations of the Degree Programs which also establishes forms and methods for verifying personal preparation.
For the first level graduates in Management Engineering, the Degree Course represents the continuation towards second level training, with the aim of developing the ability to analyze and solve problems of significant technological and managerial complexity. For first level graduates in other engineering branches, the course provides the opportunity to orient the training path towards management aspects by acquiring managerial skills.
The Master Degree in Management Engineering offers career opportunities in many fields and in a broad spectrum of organizations such as industrial and service companies, consulting firms, banks and financial institutions and public administration. Graduates can also continue their training following a PhD course.
The first year courses allow students to acquire mainly skills for the completion of basic technical training, with the contribution of cultural areas that contribute to founding the culture and professional figure of the Management Engineer. The second year is dedicated to specific training aimed at creating highly specialized professional figures for organizational and managerial roles. The course of study includes practical activities carried out in the laboratory, individual and group projects. There are also training credits intended for internships carried out externally (companies / organizations or universities abroad) or internally (Departments of UNIVPM). At the end of the course, the drafting of a thesis and its discussion is expected.
The Degree Course involves the use of e-learning platforms (Moodle - Learning Management System) to support frontal teaching, without prejudice to the conventional teaching method.

Function in a work context:

Graduates in Management Engineering are able to carry out their role in a work context both in full autonomy and in collaboration with other
professionals, being able to play coordinating roles in multidisciplinary teams. Since within an organization all processes attributable to the
production of goods and services are included in the operations, the typical professional field is represented by the management of these
processes in several sectors (industrial and service companies, including public administrations). Specifically, the management engineer deals with
and has responsibility in the management of:
• production and / or logistic systems;
• supply chain systems;
• systems for cost analysis, economic planning and control and investment analysis;
• quality assurance systems;
• product marketing and sales structures;
• complex and innovative services to support business processes through the introduction of the most modern digital technologies;
• innovation services for products and business processes.
In addition, it can support industrial and service companies, as well as public administrations, through consulting activities.

Skills associated with the function:

n order to carry out the role described, the skills of the graduate in Management Engineering must be specialized both in the engineering (technology, production system, industrial plants, logistic systems, industrial automation, …) and economic and management fields (management control, marketing, innovation management, …). These skills will allow the graduate to combine economic and production aspects with environmental and social ones, with a view to sustainability in a broader sense. Technological, economic, managerial and organizational skills allow to face complex interdisciplinary problems. Finally, graduates must have transversal communication-relational and organizational-managerial skills.

Employment opportunities:

Graduates in Management Engineering can work in manufacturing industries, in service companies, both traditional (transport, distribution, ...) and high added value (telecommunications, business consulting, ITC, ...), and in the Public Administration (local health authorities, ministries, regions, municipalities, ...). In particular, it will be able to carry out the following activities: i) supplying and management of materials, ii) production management, iii) design, automation and management of plants and logistic systems, iv) project management, v) quality management, vi) management of complex and innovative services through the introduction of the most modern digital technologies, vii) innovation management of products and business processes, viii) analysis of business processes, ix) planning and management control, x) evaluation of investments.
The skills of the Management Engineer are particularly useful in facing problems characterized by high technical-economic complexity, defined in incomplete manner or with conflicting specifications and in contexts that require the use of innovative approaches.
